About
Great Community Transport
GCT is a Community Organisation, Incorporated as an
Association and managed by a community-based management committee. GCT is a fully accredited transport
provider with the Department of Transport.
History
Mountains Community Transport Inc was funded through the Home and Community Care
Program (HACC) in 1986 to provide transport assistance for the frail aged, people with disabilities and
their carers who lived in the Blue Mountains LGA. A year later Nepean Community Transport Inc was funded to service the same people in the Penrith LGA. Both services have grown with shopping, medical
and hospital transports, centre-based meals and social outings being provided by paid and volunteer
workers.
Some additional funding has been received from NSW Health and
Sydney West Area Health to assist those people who may be temporarily “transport disadvantaged”
to their hospital appointments. Both Management Committees agreed that an amalgamation would be beneficial
step forward.
The formation of GREAT Community Transport Inc came about on
1st July 2004.
Vision
To model to the community, a collaborative community-based management structure,
which incorporates service commonalities and yet reflects and addresses the unique
characteristics and identified transport needs in each local government authority.
